Fence At Mid Day
I have a lot of these. I'll start with my favorite and see whether you like it, and whether you think less fence should be in the edges.

All depends on what You want to present.......personally I'm not sure about all the negative space bottom..course you have tagged it abstract.
Edit: of course i just start spouting off without answering....I like it very much. Looking forward to more

I like it and Re: possible alt composition, see two “routes”
(1) bring the fence into the image and use wider perspective all around.... or
(2) crop top and bottom such that the image’s diagonal is defined by the shadow’s angle.
Those are the two options I’d start playing with.

A question ... is that snow or sand? (Up North we call that fencing made of cross-wired vertical red wood strips “Snow Fencing”. It is typically used to direct snowdrifts toward the direction of least inconvenience.

Thanks Frank. I was mostly wondering about the little patch of "real" fence and the sprinkling of real stuff up at the top. I left it there as anchors in reality, but am open to cropping anything, including the blank bottom area.

It's all sand. It's a part of the dune protection ordinance, to try and hold the dunes in place as much as nature will allow. They are similar to snow fencing but with a slightly different goal.
And your suggestion about removing all evidence of the "real" fence and plants is what I was wondering about, I shall try it.
