It saddens me to forward the news that our good friend and fellow photographer, Matt Quinn, has passed. As some of you may know, he had been battling cancer for a while and was on his way to recovery. Please take a moment to remember him in your prayers. |

The grandson
"Babysat" for the (10-year old) grandson today. He's never surprised or fussy when I take out the camera. Matt

These are very nice. He doesn't happen to like baseball does he? I favor the one in the uniform with hat, simply because I love baseball above all sports. I do think mitigating the effect of the lamp in that one might improve it. The others have good separation for casual portraits, and of course they are well taken.Matt Quinn wrote: ↑Wed Jul 11, 2018 12:48 am"Babysat" for the (10-year old) grandson today. I wish my little wild boys would sit still for me. Only if they chose the set up, and it's always something kinda silly.

Matt, well done on all of these. Great tone and separation. I'm with Minnie on the first one. However, I do see and think the first one would make an excellent composite using the environment of a baseball field or diamond for a background. Number 2 and 3 I like for the partial shadow on the right side of his face, even tho the pose and expression are similar. Great work either way !!!

Yes, Minnie, he loves baseball and swimming. And we love watching him at both.minniev wrote: ↑Wed Jul 11, 2018 1:28 amThese are very nice. He doesn't happen to like baseball does he? Getting lazy, I am afraid, and impatient for progress in learning PS, so I go with so-so stuff, even though I know it could be improved. And I rationalize the behavior by murmuring that it's wiser to focus narrowly and improve one skill (i.e., b&w photos, even though there is not that much to show at the moment) than to spread thinly over many techniques. Thus, the value of pM. Nudges and nudges abound. No tolerance for so-so when one can do better.
So, many thanks for your support and others'.
Matt

Thanks Dave. I like the idea of a composition. Thanks. Mattdavechinn wrote: ↑Wed Jul 11, 2018 10:18 amMatt, well done on all of these. Great tone and separation. I'm with Minnie on the first one.
