Any suggestions?

Post by Matt Quinn »

I took this photo hoping to imitate a Chinese scene with the slanting tree against and blank sky. Don't know if it's possible. Any and all suggestions welcome including fuddegedabodit. Thanks. Matt

Using the composition principle of Emphasis. I darkened the tree, cropped the image, blurred the background, duplicated the tree a couple of times and rotated it with multiply to give more volume to the banches. I do not claim success, but I thank you for making me think about it!

Magic, Piet. Thank you. It has life. It moves as I look at it. Matt

Piet has given you precisely the crop I'd have suggested, though I would have gone somewhere entirely different than Piet did on the processing. His turned out better than mine would have but I wouldn't have thought to melt the waves.

Now, why don't you re-edit it, Matt, and see what new treasure you can make of it?

It wasn't much really beyond the crop. I pushed the blacks, whites, shadows, etc. a quarter past until it felt right.

I really liked this exercise and found it a fun image to work with! S-
