Dam Bird Fantasy

Postby minniev » Sat Jul 15, 2017 11:46 pm

Sometimes I just play. I took a fairly boring dam bird shot and wore it out with Orton technique, which I use a fair amount on certain landscapes and sometimes flowers, but haven't tried with dam birds. I retrieved some sharpness in a few wing feathers so it didn't turn into a total blur. All comments appreciated.

This image has a classic feel with a dreamlike quality to it. There is also a certain pictorialist feel to the whole thing as well. Not many images can pull off a blurred look without it looking forced or amateurish. In this case, it really works well and, frankly, I can't picture it otherwise. Any sharpness of subject would render this commonplace.

Lovely image and definitely a wall hanger or gallery image.

Thank you Duck. It was just a shot of bird-butts as taken, but I liked that raised foot and the position of their wings so I took a notion to try something different, kinda liked the outcome and wanted to see what others thought. It's a strategy that might work for a subset of the birds in similar shots, where there isn't a lot of detailed environment to incorporate. I have avoided those because they didn't look like they'd be very interesting but I may try another.

I like everything about it, love their poses, love the mysterious path they are on. Like "keep the wings up, keep them clean. Whoa, what did I almost step in." Stomp, stomp, they need a song with a beat. "don't slip and fall, us birds are ten feet tall", stomp stomp

Piet, I absolutely adore the narratives you sometimes treat us to while reacting to an image. This one is a delight, and made me laugh out loud. If you have the tune worked up, do share it. I can almost hear them now. I often imagine the birds dancing, so many of their movements are full of rhythm, either graceful or comical. THANK YOU!

Thank you Chuck!

(I actually named one dam bird picture "Pas De Deux"), I see so many allusions to dance in the birds.
