Re: What To Do With An Apple

Post by minniev »

Here's one that's pretty different: the apple this time the red thing in the middle. I extracted the apple and ran it through a kaleidoscope generator, which gave me the red circle and the stem turned into those yellow "petals". I stole a background, slapped some elements around on it. Gaudy but fun.

continuing saga-

I actually "made" this elephant. I took a photo course on digital painting which there is no way I can every really use because I can't draw even with a real pencil, much less a computerized one. It did help me learn more about shading and such, and the final project involved creating an elephant by drawing it and piecing together a bunch of photos of elephant hide to the thing you draw. Since I can't draw, I found an antique woodcut print of an elephant from an old encylopedia and used that as a stand in for the drawing, then proceeded to put patches of hide over his electronic shape. Borrowed an eye from a zoo photo, then painted him. The bird of course is a local friend. And you already know the apple. Added flowers, textures, a bit of interior decoration and text, and here is the nutty result.

Building an elephant ain't easy. Usually I just steal my animals from somewhere and mess with them a little. But this was part jigsaw puzzle, part quilting, and part photoshopping.

The bunnies were tame. Here's a wilder one. It's based on a nightmare I had about some cataclysmic event that destroyed everything (sound familiar?), and everyone who survived just had a few belongings they carried in their hands. A guy was making clay pots and decorating them so people could put their meager possessions in something. Mine was shaped like an apple.

So here is a reinterpretation of that...
Yep! Images of spontaneous imagination, and especially of dreams - with all the amazing pertinence and consciously unconsidered connections that dreams so clearly reveal are often as memorably “solid” as are memorable images of actual, conscious vision.
Witness this one!
Clearly, Paula, your creativity suffers not a whit from the stresses of enforced social isolation!
Stay safe and as well as can be contrived!

With all understandable regards,
Dave

I have always had vivid dreams that play out like movies, so I know my mind works overtime at night concocting stories out of images and words. I'm sure they impact the imaginative image play I enjoy so much.

Glad to see you about!

I may be winding down on my apple project but there will be something to take its place. There's a couple more, and perhaps a new one will come to me. Here's an old photo I took in Bodie, CA ghost town a few years ago.

My experiment was to turn the exterior of the building into a sketch-type thing and overlay the interior (with added apple) on top. This didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped but it is a strategy I'll work more on as I like the concept.
