It saddens me to forward the news that our good friend and fellow photographer, Matt Quinn, has passed.
As some of you may know, he had been battling cancer for a while and was on his way to recovery.
Please take a moment to remember him in your prayers.

An Assignment I Didn't Like

Post by minniev » Sun Oct 28, 2018 6:03 pm

The course that I'm taking (Piet's in it too but he's ahead of me!) offers challenges now and then, and put up this one yesterday. They posted a bunch of elements, none of which I liked (they were more modern/urban stuff) and we had to use just that to create a composite. You could add one photo of your own. I wish I could show you all the stuff I had to pick from, and you'd know this was not the challenge for me. There's another one about using some models other folks have shot, and that will be even worse. Anyway, here is Maroon Bells recast as a ski area. Or something.

A hot air balloon over a frozen mountain. Wonder what the physics of that situation might be. Where's Bond, James Bond? He should be on skis. Matt

It is.

There's one more day on this challenge, Piet, why don't you download that batch of weird stuff neither of us would ever choose and see what you can throw together?

If there had been a James Bond on ski's or even a Matt Quinn, I'd have slapped him in there in a heartbeat. Maybe even a kneeling gunman I could stick in the balloon and behind the car...

I feel seriously bad about being seriously lazy. I am so far behind in that thing... Still making headway learning things, but not doing enough doing!!! But am at least putting some energy into Death Dealer..

Oh heck I’m behind too. And I don’t do the stuff the way I’m supposed to of course. And I’m sure I’ve forgotten 90% of what I’ve done. But it was good practice to work with elements I hated. I want you to suffer too!

Ha!!

About forgetting - I agree, same here. I think that is why it is important to keep Doing. The end result doesn't even have to be good, it just has to have the repetition of the proper process (to burn it in).

I Do ctrl-alt-shift-E (the move) automatically now without having to think what it is. In fact, I had to Do it just to be able to type it in, but I can now Do it automatically. Such is learning.. Do - pull back - refine, rinse and repeat.
