ok - I'm trying something new, that I have not attempted before. Using the existing image, paint over the image (using references) to make the image become something very different than it was before. I'm trying to creep into skill-building and while I know I may not be successful, it is something I wish to attempt. If I can make this work, then at some point perhaps I could just as effectively fill in a rough drawing as doing this type of "overlay".

So my challenge ultimately for this piece is to change the tone of it from fantasy to horrific. I'll keep her as sexy as horrific allows me to.

The change to her was very small and does not include mood (I will have a heavy fog for mood later)..

no, reference simply means to look at another picture. It could be roots, vines, bones, textures.. I will bring it into photoshop, warp the dickens out of it, rotate it, lay it over the piece that I wish to adjust, and then I create a new layer and draw over on top of it, the pieces that I want... much like tracing. Or have the image close by on the screen and just draw/paint free hand. Also, you can lift colors from the reference.

My original part (her arm) defines the boundaries and the overall lighting. The reference image defines the new texture, the new look of it - much like putting on a piece of clothing.

I feel that it is a good form of cheating to learn how things fit and what looks good and what doesn't. If I were good, I could draw from memory or from the imagination, but I figure you have to begin someplace..

Edit -- Also, I never "draw/paint", I wish to add that skill to my arsenal. I figure if I try even in a very primitive fashion like this, then when I read about it, it will make more sense to me.. skill building..

You have an incredibly fervid and fertile imagination. Amazing to watch this gestate. I have no understanding of your explanations but don't need to; I just enjoy the visuals.Thanks. Matt

Ha! No hooch place for this pooch. That's the short road to a lonely corner in New Orleans at the wrong end of a camera!
