August Fingerwork #3 - Lilacs and More Misplaced Music etc

Still working on integrating different elements including photos, backgrounds, artwork, and all kinds of other kitchen sink stuff. Any comments are surely OK, I know I'm still a beginner at this.

I gotta say I just love this stuff. You get better every time, and it was great to start with. It's lovely. (OK) (Y) :thumbup: :yay:
Friends call me Chuck. :photo: This link takes you to my Flickr albums. Please click on any album to scroll through it.
(I prefer to present pictures in albums because I can put them in specific order.)

All the great photographers use cameras! No, really. :|

Thanks Chuck. I see you posted a fantasy image, and I'm hoping Piet and I can lure you into the Dark Side of imagemaking. It's a fun hobby, and it is a great way to learn more about Photoshop, which we pay for but seldom use to its full potential.

this is beautiful Min. I am loving the paleness of the butterfly and the contrast it has against the rich colors.

As to Chuck... we will catch him in a dark alley and bushwhack him and drag him away and he will never be the same again!

Thanks. I think he's trying to escape. We'll outfox him though.

" I know I'm still a beginner at this. "
I think it is about time you stepped forward. You are creating your own style.
You still like your music, reminds me of your birds on a wire post? :)
Lovely cohesion in colour.

Ideas for you;
Have a look at the butterfly wing adjacent to the flower. There is no outline to the front edge of the wing, so it now looks like lines.
Is the flower the main element or the butterfly?
Rotate butterfly so that it's feelers are over the flower and reduce it's opacity/brightness/size?
Please accept above as only a discussion.
Wish I had done it
Kind regards;

Thanks for these detailed ideas. I really appreciate your taking the time to think through the piece with me. I will look at that wing again. I fooled with it a few different ways and can't remember why I chose this particular one. The lilacs are supposed to be the main subject, but the butterfly worked his way in. I meant him to be just a little translucent surprise in the background but I liked the ghostly way I got him rendered and he took on a larger role. Most of the time I start one of these with an idea, then I wander around and find stuff to support the idea, but of course I have these other weird brainstorms along the way and there is no predicting what I'll end up with.

Had to smile at above statement. It sounds so like me in some respects, but I start with only the vaguest of ideas and only start to piece together as I go along.
Still trying to learn to close file and come back to it later with new eyes.
