Soft Pencil Sketch action on a portrait

Post by Duck » Tue May 01, 2018 11:55 pm

Inspired by PietFrancke's playing with the pencil sketch action on his flamingo I was motivated to buy that same action (thanks Piet) since I was really enjoying what Piet was doing. I played around with it to get a feel for the action and the different points of modification. Here is the effect applied to one of the portraits I took the other weekend. Oh, and the framing was modified from the action and inspired by Ernst.

Nicely done Duck and quite the selection of actions...I am debating on one myself, mixed media I believe.

man.. That looks GOOD. I like that the framing is 100 percent committed to - and I am guessing you added Effects with shadow, it sets the framing off really well, which in turn add to the portrait. Clean and beautiful!! The head shot is perfectly framed and I like very much the rendering..

Thanks for visiting and taking the time to comment. I am really liking this action (thanks Piet) as it is really well crafted with beautiful results.

Piet, I added the frame on my own. I created a selection based on the frame size the action creates, filled the outer edge with white, added a beveled effect and changed the frame's blend mode to multiply to make it invisible. I also edited the small strokes layer to remove many of them from the face. Other than that, it's pretty straight out of the box.

I love it.

Duck, I suspect you like what it does to your photo, but what do the ladies think about theirs? And what is "action?" Is it a software? Or steps in PS? Matt
