He's a Frenchmen and he always has a knack for adding lots of atmosphere to his images. How in the world does he do that!!!! http://www.philtauranphotography.com/

Wow, that's beautiful! S-

The image is striking and I really enjoy the tones. Beautiful, and what a good friend. Happy belated! S-

Ernst, I'm really enjoying the chance to see your art collection from way down here in Mississippi. I've loved looking through the things you've added to the thread since I last saw it, and exploring the links you (and Steve) have provided. What a treat you're giving us, and an expanded education along with it. Treasure...

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Back in my early collecting days, late 70's I was visiting a Gallery in Seattle "Equivalence" I believe and this image was for sale by Andrea Kertesz. Only $500 and I had the money in my pocket and didn't purchase it. ;-(

Just noticed at an auction house the Kertesz print is estimated at between $6000 to $8000. Buy art that you love when you can, don't pass it up.

I use to travel down to Eugene, OR and attend the Universities Photo Auction they have every year. I added to my collection during those years. However I did miss
out on this image by Ruth Bernhard, it only sold for $300. I believe it's priced in the $16,000 range now adays.

Did you mean Shelf Portrait?

Love your wall; casual elegance. I wanted to do just this kind of a wall with my own B&Ws but the boss nixed it. Didn't want clutter. Now I have only three hanging on one wall, and three resting on a shelf on the opposite wall. And a lot stacked in a closet.

I once bought a b&w online from an international artist, name will go unmentioned, and was disappointed when it arrived. Since she was internationally recognized and I was not, I felt I didn't know good stuff when I saw it, so it sits in its sleeve unmated and unframed. No more purchases without seeing them "in the flesh." And only if I like them, whether from a known or an unknown. Thanks for this post. Matt

Funny you mention the book on Graciela Iturbide. That is a name I would not have know had it not been for this video by Ted Forbes on his "Art of Photography" YouTube channel.
