Bristlecone! It took me a minute. There's a park or monument in CA someplace and we were there years and years ago. I'll say what I said about Methuselah: Beautifully composed, very rich (Kodachrome 25 at altitude with a polarizer rich), very Nat Geo-y. The sky might be just a tad too much but it's all subjective. I like it very much! (OK)
Leaving the Pinnacles I had originally planned to make a trip to the Buttermilk Country Loop, but a stop at the Interagency Ranger Station revealed the gates to North and South Lakes were closed for another few days. I could make it to Lake Sabrina but with the other two out I asked what else I could do and they suggested the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. I've always wanted to go so off I went. It was colder than expected but pleasant enough and worth a return visit when I have more time to sit with the trees and learn their language the way it was meant to be heard!

Too much? S-
No, if your happy..
I'm never happy with my images, worrying they are not processed enough or now too much. I try to get them to what my eye see's but I always want more and hope to find that little something in what other people see in them so that I can learn and be better! S-

I like this one even better. The mountains make an even more lavish background statement. These ancient trees have such character and you've captured it well. In this one too, I'd probably make the blues a little less dramatic, but again that is personal choice, and this treatment has a classic film look to it. And again, a good candidate for monochrome (though it's hard to give up those beautiful colors, there's no reason we can't do both!).

Yours are so much nicer than the ones I got when I was there, it makes me wanta go back even more.
It was an amazing trip, and more amazing that I was alone in the Patriarch Grove. It was a fast trip with work the next day so I saw the highlights and will make my way back when I have more time to sit with the trees and learn each one by name. This one fascinated me though, right there by where you would normally park if the road wasn't closed for snow and I didn't hoof it in, it seemed to be lonely, expecting large crowds to surround it so I spent some time with it and took several shots. This is a slight crop but there are others.

Thank you! It's a little darker than what I saw at 11,000 feet but would look that way with sunglasses. S-

I'm pretty strong but haven't been out for awhile so I found myself taking it slow, very slow. The beauty kept me going! S-

Yes, you've got clarity into the whites.

I found wonderful trees right by the road up there too, and by where one of the little parking lots was. The first snow had just fallen when I was there, so the roads were still passable but the ground was snow covered and it was magical. I wonder if we were close to the same location? Rocky road and rugged little parking lot. I got a flat in that parking lot, and had the honor of having my tire changed by Guy Tal who was just as adept with a tire jack as he is with his camera.
