30 Days with no Rule Of Thirds. I'm especially interested to learn about the gestalt theories! S-

Taking a photo a day for thirty days will be okay, but processing them could take some time.

This is a photo I previsualized but blew the settings in camera so I had to work it in post. S-

Steve, I confess to not being able to see what you saw with this composition and story :| Will you walk us through that?

Oh no... I failed. Time to give up... (phew!) LAF

I wanted a super closeup but I tried a different setting on my camera this morning and didn't think to review the lcd. I wasn't happy with most of them so it's a lesson I won't forget. Anyway, The Challenge is to force you away from The Rule Of Thirds and while I haven't had time to learn the gestalt theory I liked the flow of the image.

I wish the bison behind the one of the right wasn't there, and it might have been a better image if the one on the left took a walk, but the more I see him the more I like him, it's like Butts And Faces. Mostly I like the flow from left-to-right.

It's an interesting question about the story though, and I'm not sure I would have presented this image if it were not a 30 Day Challenge, but that's no excuse and will help me think about it more when I shoot the next.

I'm curious though, what don't you like about it? It will help! S-

I'm sure I was already predisposed to view the pic in a biased way from knowing this was a "stay away from rule of thirds" topic. So my first thought was, why this particular composition? And my second thought was, I don't like the butt. "Butts and Faces" does make a think-outside-the-box kind of photo, though!

btw, I like the idea of this challenge, but I won't be doing one per day...too much stress in that tight timetable :)

To be honest, I have an odd schedule and am worried about taking a photo a day for a month too, but thought I'd step up and see if I can use it to improve my photography. That and I can probably do anything for 30 Days.

I really do appreciate the feedback, it helps! S-

On the Bison image Steve, I feel where the eyes are placed it's pretty close to the "Rule of Thirds"

Not sure what the subject is in the 2nd image so it doesn't do much for me.
Today is the Day, a New Day.

I figured this would either be a love it or hate it image, it's small, hard to tell what it is, difficult to focus on, and on...

It's amazing how hard it is not to place something on the Rule Of Thirds, it's almost as if the 'rule' was made to compensate for where you have to put something. What I was trying to do with the bison was place her face in the middle box on the right, but that means her eyes and mouth ride the lines. It's almost the same with the shell in the lower-right. I wanted something small and isolated, to keep it off of the lines, but it's in the lower right box which sort of gives it the same power as being on the line.

I looked at gestalt theory but it feels like they find a shape that worked with the image as if the artist made the work and someone came behind and said I wonder which of these fit. This is going to be a much tougher challenge than I thought.

The shell reminds me of a rose with a few last petals so I might try it again. Thank you so much for your honesty! S-
