Shot yesterday while on an unusual trek. I've acquired a high school senior who dreams of being a nature photographer and is required to do a senior project that requires shadowing someone who does such. She had to dig pretty deep to find me, and I know as well as anyone how scarce we are here, so I couldn't say no. So in our 100+ temperatures I took her slogging through a swamplet looking for birds and dragonflies and flowers.

Slight crop, but nothing fancy done with this one.

Amazed the critter stayed still long enough for you to get that close. Nicely done. And a generous response on your part to the young girl. Matt

There is a special feeling you get when you tutor a youngster. I find that I often learn just as much as they do, even if it's a different topic. Staying connected, that's what it's about.
Now you have to have your young padawan join us here for some critique sessions. :)

Thanks, the colors were kinda hot, and I desaturated the greens a little but didn't want to steal too much from them.

The blue dragons were a little less hyperactive than the green ones,so they turned out better.

I have always mentored students, when I was working, but those were social workers seeking licensure for clinical practice, so it was an entirely different field and age group. This young lady is teaching me as much as I'm teaching her.

She seems willing. She's a country girl so she isn't offended by the smelly dam or muddy swamps.

Photography mentoring is very different from the clinical social work mentoring I did for 40 years, but that part is the same - I always learn as much as I teach.

I have talked about the forum with her, and it terrified her of course, but I'll keep at it. She does post some photos to instagram, so she's crossed that barrier of fear.
