Nice capture...ragged for sure Piet. Another from the tripod or no? A bit soft but works here....I seem to feel a bit of darkness around the edges of some areas of the birds.....may be my eyes or monitor

The composition is lovely and the image has a great musical feel to it. Their wings are ragged for sure. I see the dark edge Frank mentioned, too, and wonder if it is some form of CA, or perhaps just part of the general softness. I don’t mind the softness, but might go on and take it further with some of your classic artistic processing.

thank you Min and Frank. I saw some halo by the beaks that I should fix but did not notice at all the dark cloudiness just outside the birds - now that I see it, it looks pretty bad. We weren't out on Tripod, so far we have only taken that out on the bay side. And we see this pelicans only out on the ocean side. The shot was taken from shore hand held. I had it on auto-iso and shot was under-exposed a little, though in post I brightened the birds a lot (and especially I brightened the background - but failed to notice the cloudiness just surrounding the birds.

Oh my goodness! This one is great Piet, you found the perfect Turner-esque backdrop for those birds. This is one of your best. How you are artistically interpreting the world around you is getting more powerful all the time. Canvas print.

thank you very much Matt and Min.

Min, thank you for the observation about the background - I didn't realize it before, but I think a big part of why the image is working as well as it is has to do with the perceived calmness of the birds and the natural turmoil around them.

Matt, I hope to keep improving. A FB friend commented on the image saying "so how much of this is real?" and I replied, "how much of a painting is real? What is real?" In many ways I feel the image is much more real like this than it was in the original shot.
