This Is Not Ernst's Ferry Series

Post by minniev » Thu Jul 06, 2017 5:10 pm

Though inspired by Ernst, I am clearly not that gifted in my eye for art created from line and shape and tone. Still, I notice things and make my efforts. I don't get to take a ferry often and they are a source of great photo fun even if my results are less artful than I'd like. All comments welcome.

three is cool, it shows the vastness of the water. two is cool, it shows the vastness of the air, and heavy metals holding things together and floating (how impossible is that?). one shows the vastness of the activity and working boats are so very, very cool. Something I will never understand (the why of it), these BW images have so much more emotion in them than the same image in color.

#3 has the most impact for me: I like making up my own story about the young man, I love the perspective and composition with curve of the boat being a strong line against the softer water and sky.

The day was hazy and over bright so everything looked washed out in color. Good excuse to practice monochrome conversions! Thanks Piet

Thanks Linda. I liked the people ones too. This ferry lacks a place for people to congregate so most of them just sit in their cars, which was disappointing because that's usually where I find the ferry fun, where the people is. I settled for oil rigs and gulls this trip.

Thanks for dropping by Ernst. I always scuffle along. Anything outside my normal purview takes a lot of mental effort but trying new things is the only way I improve.

Thank ya Frank. Only about 45 minutes, just across Mobile Bay.
