The Dam Birds of August

Postby minniev » Sun Aug 06, 2017 5:42 pm

The birds left for a while, but showed back up for a while yesterday in the early morning haze, shooting into the sun with all of that light coming through the grates in the top of the dam. It is not an easy scene to compose from with these conditions, and I haven't tried to do much with it in post since it was strange enough as it was. Any suggestions or edits are appreciated.

May I suggest cropping to a Pano? BW?

Thanks for an interesting idea. I'd be very happy for you to show me where? top and bottom or just one of them?

I've not tried any pano crops for the dam birds but you have got me thinking...

good work Minnie! With Ernst's crop, it feels Egyptian - perfect for heavy stone, birds, water in Amazing light.

thanks Piet. Actually the underbelly of the dam has struck me as Egyptian before, with the birds and geometric blocks of stone and strange "stairs" where no humans can go.

I love it in color. The first word that came to mind was "ethereal." The scene seems overall monotone anyway, except for the two splashes of sunlight on the water that, because of the angle almost look as if the birds have "cast light" instead of shadow. I would not like to lose those splashes either by removing the color or cropping (sorry, Ernst ;) ). Ethereal. Lovely.

(I prefer to present pictures in albums because I can put them in specific order.)

All the great photographers use cameras! No, really. :|
