What's the rush?
An ox cart in a West Bengal village.
I'm off out to India again tomorrow, to say I'm excited would be an understatement.
First a few days in Kolkata then out to the tribal villages in the forests with a children's health team.

Graham, that is wonderful - bright and full of life, rich in culture, and with a touch of humor when compared to the morning commute I dealt with every day for 40 something years.Graham Smith wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2018 8:58 pmAn ox cart in a West Bengal village.

Please take care and have fun.. Bring back more wonderful images for those of us who wish we were with you. If you run into a spot of wi-fi along the way, send us a quick image to break up our winter doldrums!

Thanks Paula, I had thought about titling it "Amazon next day delivery India style"
I will be taking pictures for CNI (Church of North India) but I made sure that will be getting plenty of time to do my own stuff, both in Kolkata and out in the tribal villages. This time the visit will be more relaxed than the one in 2016 which was a lot of formal ceremonies and meet and greet stuff.
It will be great to meet up with old friends out there, especially those at the hospital in Sarenga. What a joy that place is.
Wifi will be okay the first few days but spasmodic to zero for the second week.
80°F will be tough but I will struggle on, after all, someone has to do it

I love the right antler on the cow on the right; used to signal a left-hand turn, I imagine. And the fellow's leg hanging down--the brake? Brings back my years in the Philippines where the farmers used water buffalo. It was always an awesome sight to see a tiny child atop a massive beast lumbering through the rice paddies. I have no photos, though.

I love everything about this picture, which immediately put me in mind of #4 of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, "A Polish cart on enormous wheels, drawn by oxen." One of the things I love best about this is the sense of peace, tranquility, and even love as the driver has both his hands resting gently on the backs of his two stalwarts. There is no whip or prod in evidence, just the warm touch of his hands reassuring them that he is still there, and they are a team.
