These images are fantastic. They capture mood and clearly tell a story. They are also not your typical balloon photo. In this case it clearly paid off capturing the pre dawn takeoff.

There is a balloon festival each year upstate from me. I keep meaning to go but something always seems to come up last minute. I'll have to make sure I make it at least once. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thank you. You should definitely try to make it. One great thing about the Alabama Jubilee is that they let folks out on the field at all times, something apparently not all balloon events do. Folks get to interact with the balloonists and also get some more unique shots. One feature that is really great is what is called the night glow when the balloons are inflated in the evening (which is actually when I took this shot). When they light them up with flames from their burners, the balloons take on quite a different aura than in the daytime. I had hoped to take one of the free tethered rides offered on the second day but the wind was so strong, the balloons could not even be inflated.

Martha, neat shots. This brings back memories of being at the Albuquerque Balloon Festival a few years ago and watching (and photographing) all the action. It was absolutely incredible to see all those balloons in one place. They also let folks out on the field at all times, so it was something to see everything up close and personal. Would be nice to see any more of your shots from this event, if you have them.
