Dry. Why would it be wet? You haven't begun to work. Just set it up. No need to dowse the knife. BTW, gorgeous instrument. Looks new and unused. Matt

Duck, My aging eyes don't really notice the water on the tomatoes, it's so muted, maybe cause the tomatoes are in such soft focus. And there is no light dancing. Eager to see your final. Matt

Believe it or not, a cheap $20 set from Wal-Mart... :S
They do look purty, though.

If anyone is interested in the BTS of this second knife image, here are some pics.

Main illumination comes from a scrim placed above the product. A softbox is aimed upwards at the scrim and light is bounced down to illuminate the flat of the blade, giving shape to the edges and kullens (the ground indents). A second light has a fine grid to create the spot of light that directs the eye to the blades and adds highlights to some of the edges. Two white cards open up the shadows on the handles a touch.

The knife or the avocado? I love avocados and you did both it and the oversized knife justice. The disproportionate sizes of the two make you keep looking at this again, which is the purpose of all that we do, is it not?

I am enjoying your knife project in all its incarnations. On the first set, I did like the wet tomatoes/dry knife version. If my big slashing knife were wet, I'd dry it off before I cut anything with it, so it seems to feel more "right" with those few drops of water on the freshly rinsed tomatoes, but shiny dry surface on the knife.

I have to say that your studio is absolutely terrifying to me.

Love the new avatar, ultra creative.
