Dress details

Post by TomCofer » Tue Apr 28, 2015 10:42 pm

During my daughter's senior prom I was taking photos of her and many of her classmates. Since many of the young ladies (or their parents) often spend hundreds of dollars on a dress that will be worn only once, I thought I'd grab some shots of dress details. None of the shots are posed and I was only using on-camera flash. I avoided frontal shots showing detail due to their youth, the amount of cleavage being showing, and not wanting to offend anyone. That being said, I'm looking more for input on if my processing succeeded on capturing the detail or if it is distracting.

Thanks,
Tom

Taking into account the reservations you mentioned, you did ok. It's a sticky issue isn't it. You don't want to come across as the GWC... :S With these sorts of occasions it is hard to arrange people as we want....

Thanks John.
I intentionally over did the skin smoothing, thinking it would help the eye go to the dress and not the skin, but now I'm thinking that it is just as distracting by over doing it.

Nice shots Tom

It's crazy to think how much these dresses cost.

Imo, the shots from the back like this come off more like a gwc than anything, as the women don't seem to be aware that you are taking their picture. Especially the woman with her hand on her rear.

Thanks Tony.
:( That definitely was not my intent. Heck, the first one was my daughter. I guess I should have went for actual posed shots, with the girls looking over their shoulder at the camera. The scene was so hectic and busy with all the girls trying to go somewhere, see somebody, and such that I just grabbed what shots I could. I know most of these kids and have watched them grow up since 1st grade.
