Posing 101 - Professional Posing Techniques to make you a Better Photographer
This workshop includes a significant lecture 30-45 minutes and demonstration on the topic of posing followed by on on one time for each participant to pose and photograph our professional model.
If you really want to become an effective people photographer posing is the skill that will set you apart from the crowd. A good pose flatters the subject. It highlights their physical strengths and diminishes their physical weaknesses. It is one of the single most important skills a people photographer can master.
For most aspiring and many long time professional portrait, fashion and glamour photographers the one thing I find they struggle with more than camera settings, lighting patterns or creativity is the simple art of posing their model.
Learning to interact with the model and take control of the shoot is a skill that is vital to success and it is a skill that many technically solid photographers never master. Too often we will allow the model to come on set and just let her run with it while quietly nodding and grunting approval as we shoot away. In essence we allow the model to control the shoot and the result is we create her image; her vision and we leave our creative control of the shoot in her hands. On occasion when working with a very experienced and well trained model this can be OK but in the end we still are creating to the models vision not our own.
