Fantastic. I love that you distilled the image to its basic elements.
My suggestion would be to brighten the face up to match the luminance of the candles. As is, the candles take precedence.

What a sweet, wistful expression! The capture has an old masters painterly feel to it that makes it special. It's super simplified by the darkness (aren't you glad you didnt use a flash?). This is a strong image.

Me too. Maybe. I do have one, not the best or newest, and I've used it a few times, mostly for pictures I've done of the boys dressed up for Easter or Christmas sitting posed and miserable or being too silly. I used it as off camera flash, controlled by the tiny flash that came with the camera. I don't do it enough to get used to it so I always have to look up the instructions for setting it up that way, but it's far better than direct flash or even flash bounced off the ceiling.

Understood, the only thing I have against flash is my lack of knowledge to use it....

You could practice while you're still trapped in the "Frozen" movie...
