New Orleans Ladies #1

Post by minniev » Mon Sep 24, 2018 8:11 pm

I've got several series, one of the women of NOLA, of which this is #1.

Hoping Mr. Chinn adds some of his soon! it is so interesting to see how differently we present the same scenes and people.

These two were not in good shape, though it was very early in the morning. They are regulars in the Quarter ,and everyone knows them well. It is interesting how the artists, street performers, homeless folk and other local characters intermingle in a friendly way.

Minnie, the two were a sight for sore eyes. I have many of the two together and separate, which makes it rather difficult to choose and I'm sure you have many as well.

I know we discussed the gender and I'm still in doubt, but have come to a conclusion to be reveled later. Just curious if it matters, to what other thoughts may be.

I've started my post processing, but haven't made a decision on the finalization, so I'll post some of this couple later. Comparison is so much fun with lots of interest.

These two were indeed in the classic down-and-out art group, impossible to fully categorize other than as NOLA characters who might be differently presented day to day. It is a place where playing dressup and playing roles is a big part of everyday life for the poor and the prosperous. NOLA has always welcomed everyone.

Looking forward to seeing your stuff!

Minnie, I saw this yesterday and hesitated to reply because it made me sad. On second viewing, I am sadder still. But, from a technical viewpoint, you did a sensitive and marvelous job: leading lines, critical moment, intimacy yet distance, respect, acceptance and a very subtle admiration for their willingness to be present to each other and to show passers-by their personal belief and self-image. Well done. Matt

Exactly what I was trying to convey. The human spirit prevails even in those who happen to live on society's fringes. That these two souls, who many of us might think of as lost, could share what they have with each other is a victory. One of the perverse beauty of New Orleans is that it shows us EVERYTHING.
