nice looking gal Frank - I would soften the image a touch around the cheeks, chin, and throat and touch up the eyes a little. The background texture isn't working (for me anyway) - I think it competes with the rest of the image too much..

Nice for a grab shot.Good management of skin and eyes. There's something about the way that shadow on her chin lies that bothers me but I don't exactly know how to explain or what to suggest about it.

Frank, Can't find the technical language but her skin seems too smooth and lifeless. I am used to see more detail or depth or dimension or something like that. And the background looks like smoke rising and competes with her. My take. Matt

my take processing wise, I wanted particularly to ease the background and to see if softening the skin some might help.. Probably went too far and too bright, but this is what I was thinking...

Just goes to show, as Matt thought the skin was already to soft.....I have a hard time with backgrounds so am starting to play with textures thanks to minniev.....thank you for your rendition as it helps with your description and thoughts...I usually exaggerate a touch to get my point across also...

From Matt; " I am used to see more detail or depth or dimension or something like that."
I love what Piet done, but you can go in the opposite direction.
My quick play. Used the lasso tool on the background, feather at 40pix. Then increase blacks with levels. Using the same area I then blurred.
Is my way better? No, just different. Piet pulled her out of the background using his method and my way by darkening the background did the same.
The final arbiter is for you to choose.
Texture backgrounds?
Not sure where you are going with that. Is it for use over the whole picture or in an area behind or to the side of the subject? Which may bring you in a full circle.
Kind regards;
