'Dirty Secrets'

Post by davechinn » Tue Mar 13, 2018 3:26 pm

April 2013 while I was photographing a DJ composition, this couple was on the dance floor and I don't remember what caught my attention, maybe her whispering in his ear. Converted to B&W sepia tone with a grunge layer to signify the title and the natural environment I was exposed to. Any suggestion and/or comments?

I like what you've done with it - you had a good composition and I like the grunge treatment. I probably would have dialed back the grunge beneath his mouth a bit. I also wonder if a slight vignette might be an asset. It's a very strong image that has a lot of emotional impact.

I find the lower portion of the image not really adding much Mr. Chinn so suggest more of a square crop and am leaning towards minniev's suggestion of vignette hoping it to be very slight.

I agree with what Min said about the grunge - the immediate focal point is her mouth and the area right in front of it, so it is an area that deserves special attention. That said, I think you have caught one of those timeless moments that occur again and again and define our very humanity - here I imagine the worst

Thanks Minnie !!! I may have over processed the grunge, but I'm not totally sure of the area you speak of to dial back. I think the area beneath his mouth your seeing is the start of beard growth. I have gone back and added a vignette along with a square crop per Frank's suggestion. Posted is an update and the original for comparison. I appreciated the suggestions.

Thanks Piet !!! Suggestions and tips have been addressed to some degree. I appreciate your thoughts, comments and your ending riddle/poem. Fits the title to a "T".

Well now I'm not sure about my suggestion,,,,,maybe just up from the bottom to about that light table leg...I know, I know, never happy....l think some of that back ground left is giving some kind of balance here....of course you know what works for you but glad to see you trying out our thoughts also...

I really like this, it reminds me of an album cover! S-
