SwampBow

Post by minniev » Thu Jan 31, 2019 10:20 pm

Entirely different from a rainbow or even a dam bow. I shot several of these this morning. They are puddles of residue from the trees, various minerals and oils that pool together and form little rainbow colored shapes on the top of the water. Because it was cold this morning, there was a rim of frost on the edge that gave it a defined look. All suggestions appreciated.

it has an interesting fish like shape - and color play might make it more abstract

Show me?

I was not sure what to do with them. I got a dozen different ones, will post another later. They are interesting but because they're in the open water rather than near the shore, I can't get a decent angle on them. I have to shoot from the bridges. And there's always a lot of debris both around them and under them, and I get the stuff in the reflections too. Hope ya'll will come up with some ideas to help me out..

Thanks! Tell me what you did, I've got a few more left to experiment with.

Thanks! Tell me what you did, I've got a few more left to experiment with.
Used Nik Bleach and a handful of filters to darken the surrounding background
Used Liquify to pull it into a more fish like shape
Used Nik Viveza on a couple of layers to change the warm and cool of things and used masks to control where to do it. (I pretended the Fish was 3d in shape, so I hit warms on the sun struck parts and cools on the shadow areas.
Used a multiply layer and rough drew in the mouth like thing and used screen to lighten areas where the sun shine might hit the lips.
Used Liquify to pull the eye shape further to the right.
Darkened areas that I felt might be in shadow and lightened areas I felt might be in light.
Overpainted some of the areas by selecting a near color and then painting at 20 percent opacity to get rid of some things I didn't like (didn't do that a lot, but if a pine needle messed up the look of things, it would be easy to paint over it)

Thanks, Wow! This would have taken me all day and you did it in minutes! You are way ahead! I'm still figuring out how to make liquify do what I want.
