Men in Black Revisited

Postby Bob's Photography » Sun Apr 26, 2015 11:45 am

This was taken at the site of the 1964-5 World's Fair in Queens, NY. I think the structure is very interesting. This was the New York Pavilion in its time. The two towers were made famous in the movie "Men in Black"

Interesting structure, all the lines and little points along them give me a strong sense of sheet music

Nice to see that old structure- brings back memories. Back in 64 I lived in Flushing Meadows- the site of the fair. I came home briefly after army training but never got to go to the Words Fair but saw some of the buildings form the expressway. I was running around like crazy to say goodbye to all my friends and relatives and shipped out to Viet Nam two weeks later. I understand that the geodesic sphere is still standing- haven't been back in ages.

Nice composition in the shot!

Ed

Thank you Ed.
At that time I lived in the far end of Queens at the Nassau line. I am a couple of years younger that you and only got to the fair once or twice. My wife who was 11-12 at the time went all the time. One of her friend's father was a ticket taker and let them in for free all the time. She tells me her mother would give her $1. and off they went by themselves for the day. That would never happen today. She always bought a Belgian waffle. If your interested take a look at bobsphotography.com there is a couple more shots of the fair grounds, Unisphere etc. We live on Long Island but my wife works a couple of hours on some Saturdays and Sundays, so instead of driving back and forth I've been hitting the fair grounds, Queens Botanical Gardens etc. while I wait to pick her up.
