Minnie, as with the Dam Birds, thank you for sharing a piece of who you are. The gallery looks beautiful in the Autumn leaves.

My cousin and I made a final visit to see it one last time and I took pictures to remember it. Through a series of unexpected events, the sale fell through and my cousin and I partnered to buy it, finalizing the sale in April 2016. Now, we are 90% done with the project, which has returned it to most of its original appearance and function. I spent Saturday working there but took time to rest on the old porch swing, and to take pictures of it in fall color.

Has anyone else attempted such a project? I've built a house before but that was lots easier than rescuing a 110 year old structure from the precipice of collapse.

Minnie,

You are familiar, I suspect, with the poem, Lake Isle of Innisfree, by William Butler Yeats. You and he -- and all of us -- feel the same yearning for a place of peace. You now have yours.

My wife and I have ours on Cape Cod. Were it not for our grandson here in MD, we would move up there permanently. When we are here, we remember. And when there, we rejoice.

Ad multos annos.

Matt

Indeed. It was not something I could turn my back on and feel good about.

Thanks Piet. Jack says the Dam Birds will look good up and down the long hall that extends the length of the house. My cousin has in storage quite a few of her paintings and her mother's paintings from when she was a student at Chicago Art Institute in the 1930s. Once I frame some of Jack's work, we'll be set. :)

We look forward to being able to stay there. I have such a treasure trove of memories from my life there as a child and young adult. A place of peace and light.

Wow, what a difference two years and a lot of love can make! The Gallery House is beautiful will be even more when it finds it's purpose again! S-

WOW! What a beautiful home, project, and backstory. I love older homes like this and am amazed when/how people restore them.

Beautiful.

It needs much more of course, but it is truly starting to feel real to me now.

Thank you. It holds a lot of memories, and we just couldn't bear to watch it fall down. Our grandparents would have haunted us if we 'd allowed that to happen. So we've secured it in such a way that it should be sound for 2 more generations.

I would say it is a very worthy investment. The after picture is postcard beautiful. Good job on the photo and the renovation
