A genre in itself, street and journalistic photography embrace many disciplines.
- Candid shots, street portraits, newsworthy editorials or just the raw nature of the human experience.

Hard Times

Postby Graham Smith » Tue May 09, 2017 9:35 pm

On a Sunday afternoon in Delhi, we see, in the background a snippet of family life being played out. In the foreground is a man who is far away from his family, he has in all probability, come to the city to try to earn money to support his family who are back home on a farm that will no longer sustain them.

The all to common droughts could be a reason for the farm failing and possibly being unable to repay a loan taken out to buy a tractor is adding to his intolerable burden. He is now working as a day labourer in Delhi, finding work wherever he can, on construction sites or carrying prodigious loads on his back for local businesses. If he can earn a little money to send home to his family he will be one of the lucky ones. The suicide rate amongst Indian farmers has been running at about 12,000 per year over the past 4 years.

He can only dream of spending time with his family on a Sunday afternoon.

I cannot think of a single thing to say. Great picture, of course, but... Hard times indeed.
Friends call me Chuck. :photo: This link takes you to my Flickr albums. Please click on any album to scroll through it.
(I prefer to present pictures in albums because I can put them in specific order.)

All the great photographers use cameras! No, really. :|

Everyone struggles for something, and while hard he does it for his family.

Thank you for sharing this and reminding every one of the value of love! S-
