Swamp Just Before the Flood

Post by minniev »

Here's a shot I made of the swamp just before the recent flood that made it inaccessible. I've done it up two ways, one straightforward and one artistic. I welcome any comments on either or both, or just a preference.

The first is just regular photo. The second has a lot of brushwork and blurring.

I like the first, but I like some of what you did on the second. On the second, I like the silky aspect, but would have left the bottom less touched using a gradient to mask. And I find the center strip of yellow too strong (but I like the idea of it). And for sure, I like the deeper shadows of the second more - particularly on the bottom and on the near trees. The brighter rock thing on the right needs to be darker I think - too close to the edge to have a sunny spot feeling. And for me, just a little too bright on the water - but I like the idea of that area having a brightness - just not that bright. All picky stuff, I think it is a real cool image.

Those are great ideas, I'm gonna do them up this very day! Thanks!

Here's what I did with it, using some of your ideas and fiddling as I went of course. It is a mix of the two with more brushwork and some light management.

Love them both Minnie, but the second one is the winner IMO. The soft focus, blur gives off a glow that has a huge impact for me.

Thank ya Dave. A work in progress still, like lots of mine!
