Swamp Child Rests In Winter

Here he is, bigger than last year, stripped of all his needles, holding debris from the recent flood that submerged him. Waiting for spring when we'll see if he survived: if so, he'll sprout new bright green needles. The cypress are our only deciduous conifers. They are an ancient breed, some of the oldest trees on earth, so I always pull for him. He is the only young cypress in the middle of the swamp. There are some old ones, and a lot of new ones along the shore line, but he is sprouted in the hardest place for year to year survival in cold and flood, but the only place to survive a drought. This was that same gold fog morning earlier in the week that I've posted others from, and there's more. It wasn't a great fog, pretty patchy, but the first in a year so I was glad for it.

I know forest shots are hard to succeed with, but keep trying. I'd be interested to see some of Piet's since I know he has ample forest to challenge him too.

I am liking the gloominess and the giants and their reflections and the wispy fog and atmosphere between
