salty ice

Post by PietFrancke » Sun Jan 14, 2018 11:17 pm

sunset ice on the Chesapeake Bay - it's been cold, but it has also been warm for a couple of days, I did not expect the ice from our last cold snap to last this long.

Very pleasing pair, Piet, especially like the first with the brilliant sky and great reflection. I can see/smell the ice and salt, you've captured the feel of the icy brackish water. You've found yourself a wonderful place.

#1 has great impact for me with that strong edge of ice receding into the distance. Crazy to think of eastern Virginia being so cold as to create this kind of ice on salt water (though during my six years' living right outside DC + another 1+ year in Columbia MD, I do remember some extreme weather.)

Lovely stuff, Piet. We used to live in NoVa, Round Hill, tucked just under the chin of WV, about a mile east of the Appalachian Trail as it crosses Rte 7. So, it's a bit of a hike to the Chesapeake from where you are, I suspect. A few times, I took my camera to the Shenandoah and have some early shots, but nothing worth the space they take on my ehd.

The early January storm here left my favorite spot, Paines Creek Beach, scattered with mini icebergs. I have a few photos but don't have my computer so I can't download and post. May do so when we get back to MD.

Love seeing what you see. Thanks. Matt

thanks Paula, Linda, Matt. Matt, I think I know the area of your old stomping grounds, there are many beautiful shots of the Shenandoah to be had. I need to change my "location" to Guard Shore on the Chesapeake.

Living in SoCal I almost missed the ice but once I saw it I felt a rush a cold come across me! S-
