Mount Rainier on a perfect summer day
Shot last June from Chinook Pass, elev. 5430' - I know many photographers feel a cloudless sky is boring, but I think blue has its place
Tipsoo Lake is in the foreground. Thanks for viewing!

Gorgeous view. Beautiful shot and I agree with you, blue does have its place.

Thank you all so much. I hope to get up there again in a few days. They only recently cleared the pass of snow (closed in winter). Good point about contrails: one day last spring I went to photograph new leaves in tree against brilliant blue sky at my apartment complex - and there were FIVE jet trails just formed, very distinct, in the way! At least they are at full altitude here - coming from Seattle - and you can't hear anything

Way back when...
I spent a few weeks at Ft. Lewis. I explored a bit around the lower portion. I also got to tromp around Mt. Saint Hellens and walk thru Ape Cave lava tube ( http://www.hikespeak.com/trails/ape-cav ... ashington/ and http://www.mountsthelens.com/ape-caves.html ) .

Thanks for the link, Tom! I've only been to St Helens area once, the Windy Ridge side. Hard to wrap your head around that place.

A very nice composition. Over here in Australia, we get amazing blue skies with very few contrails where I live. Whilst the addition of clouds can be really nice, the lack of clouds as in your image can also be very effective with the right image. I like it. Well done.

Thanks so much! I've chatted with other photographers occasionally about how we can more readily accept in other photos what we're used to seeing in our own world. I live east of the Cascades, and we have a great many long distant views from all around Yakima. People are often suggesting I crop out some of my "big" skies, but to me it just feels normal

Linda, this is a very nice picture - blue sky and all. I can sympathize a bit with you as we here in the Western prairies are often "plagued" with endless days of blue sky and no clouds. Does make for some challenging landscape situations, but I think you did very well in this one. IMHO, the fact that the sky is a small part of the entire image is what makes it work so well.
