Some areas had boardwalks to walk through the hills so they would not be damaged by footprints.

Rust, nice coverage. I had heard of the Painted Hills, but I had never seen any pics of them. This area will go on my Oregon bucket list.

way back in the Stone Age I spent some time at an Air Force radar base just north of there. The whole area is incredible from the Columbia River south. It is all volcanic ash and lava layers. beautiful geodes near Prineville, picture Jasper near Wasco and wildlife all over. With views of the Cascades the whole length. For anyone going to Oregon do not miss going to the eastern side, that is even more photogenic than the coast. Oh did I mention the fishing, and almost total lack of people! ;)

Thanks, Tom, Ron, and Did. Yes, Ron... the Ochocos and Painted Hills are a great source of photos and experiences.

Did... very few people an lots of places to fish. The Redmond/Bend/ Sisters areas are also wonderful. Smith Rock, Lava Caves and the Deschutes Brewery are fun to visit.
