Hints of rmalarz here Steve...and you know that's quite the compliment. You did post in critique so I would suggest taking it back into nik...up the highlights and drop the shadows, play around just a bit more with it and bring in all the zones, appears to be a bit light on the dark zones and the very upper....of course if this is what you wanted to present then you nailed it....

I like both versions but have a preference for the stronger contrasts of the second one. Some people find objections to the blackish skies, but if it worked for Ansel Adams it works for me. It helps bring out the wonderful detail in those cloud structures, and the lights/shadows that define the cool rock formations. Well done.

The second wouldn't have been possible without help! Thank you so much! S-

The second is definitely more A.A.-ish. One way he got those black skies was using yellow, orange, or even a red filter. Those colors darken blue, and being at higher altitudes makes the sky darker to begin with. If you don't mind telling, where are these formations? I think they are generally called "needles." Some places that have them are called either Needles or Pinnacles.

(I prefer to present pictures in albums because I can put them in specific order.)

All the great photographers use cameras! No, really. :|

The Trona Pinnacles are tufas similar to those in Mono Lake, and thank you so much, I'm honored! S-

Thanks, Steve. We were at Mono more times that we could count but never went to Trona, possibly because I destroyed a car going to Bodie once. (N)

I was surprised how many cars I saw doing the circle-and-go during the day, the trick is to go slow.

And yes, I'm jealous of everywhere you've been. Blessed! S-
