'Black-Bellied Whistling Ducks'

Post by davechinn »

Street photography, breakfast and a trip in Audubon Park, New Orleans, we found a pleasant relaxing environment !!! Except for those
“1000s of black-bellied whistling ducks!” I found that the duck were unique to any duck I have ever seen.Their beaks and palmate/feet was a color I had not seen in any duck. They were constantly whistling https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserRev ... siana.html
This is just a couple for starters and I'm sure Minnie may have some to share as well. The first one is with the fisheye of the lake and some of the ducks along with a few ducks perched on a tree limb, which I was unaware that ducks did this sort of thing, and then we have a relaxing lazy squirrel keeping an eye out.

Aw, I've been waiting for these! I will be motivated now to look at my own. Love the fisheye. Your closeups will be better than mine, but I'll give them a try. I was disheartened by not having my longer lens, but will see what I can do. The squirrel siesta is cute too.

My ducks ain't near as cute as yours.

And I didn't have a fisheye.

But there were certainly a LOT of whistling ducks, and they are odd. I have never seen ducks with feet like that, nor ducks that preferred sitting in pine trees to swimming, and I never heard ducks whistle before.

Thanks Frank !!! Yeah, it appears they are afraid of the water, but I think it's the nature of the breed? A new one on me.

Minnie you may not have a fisheye, but you definitely have an eye for composition !!! Your second one, with the ducks and the white bird (species unknown to me) is a great capture. One that I did not get, and the last one with the squirrel, you captured the black-bellied whistling ducks under the tree branch for a complete kitchen sink !!! Another one I did not get, as well. The comparison, is so much fun.

The white one is an ibis.
