Gorgeous image, Piet. You know I’m taken with fine art images of birds. There are not that many folks who explore this avenue. Most “great” bird photographers seem to stick with the ultra sharp action/detail shot that is definitely comfortable in the documentary capture world. I think there are enough of those guys already. We need more like this.

thanks Frank, Dave, Minnie - my processing goal (besides the overdone background), was to paint the bird with light in a fashion that adds greater dimensionality to it.

I can see it in the bird (the enhanced light) but your background seems to have robbed a bit of the effect maybe...

I agree, I think the color of the background might not be a plus either. perhaps a subdued green would work better. Have to think on this..

I think I like this background much better - it works with that magnificent beak.

I like this background better also......but, and you knew I'd have a but....I think you've lost some of the depth in the bird you had worked so hard on.....

I will not disagree. (it was the price of being lazy). When I added/blended the background, it had to impact the bird too, or it didn't work.. But perhaps I could have done something - I needed to work that end more.. Sometimes you like something you did, and lazy takes over.
