It saddens me to forward the news that our good friend and fellow photographer, Matt Quinn, has passed. As some of you may know, he had been battling cancer for a while and was on his way to recovery. Please take a moment to remember him in your prayers. |

making new friends
Red Planet - cheap land.
The toads and frogs did not survive, the planet did not have as much water on it as was hoped or expected. We need volunteers, the unwanted, the scraggly, the poor, the tough.
Look who I found in my drawers this morning! No Duck, it was the Kitchen Drawers. We have a silver feeding machine that attracts them and then I bully them into signing model contracts. I have decided to take their pictures, because I am thinking it might be the same ones that keep coming back. Building a wall is not an option.

This is interesting and wacky and wonderful and well put together, though I’m not entirely settled with the position of the mouse’s tail, which doesn’t quite look right to me (my mice don’t raise their tails stiffly, though perhaps your marsh mice do- mine just drag their tails about unless they are dead and stiff my traps).PietFrancke wrote: ↑Fri Mar 09, 2018 10:38 pmRed Planet - cheap land.

Are you gonna tell us how you made this one up? I’m fascinated.

thank you Frank and Dave and apologies to Duck for my stupid attempt at humor.
Minnie, the moth and iron ball are a stacked macro image. I placed the 1 inch ball bearing in water and let it rust then placed the moth on top of it. The mouse came out of a humane trap. They crawl in to get their peanut butter, but can't get out. I set the trap on the porch railing and release them and get shots of them. Since they are on the railing, I can get low enough to get good side shots - this morning I tried using my macro lens on the new captive and it worked pretty well. Sometimes the mouse jumps right away, but usually they hang around (perhaps they are in a state of mild shock).
Anyway, I think I will end up with a large collection of mouse shots - they are the perfect subject for compositing and I think they make a great subject for humor or for horror. I used the pen tool to make the extract, and then I spent maybe twenty minutes painting back in the hairs..

if you come over for a game, I'll give you a beer, and we'll give the mouse a mop.
