Kate Old Hollywood

Having plenty of time and not much to do, I got to thinking about the old Hollywood studio look.
So I pulled out an old picture of my daughter in law. Reduced the blacks, reduced whites and softened the picture.
Anybody else done something similar?

Looks like you met your goal here with the look you wanted to emulate. No, I haven’t tried anything like it but since you shared your recipe, I can try!

Recipe above is just one way to reduce extremes
Another fast way is when in raw adjustment is to reduce contrast all the way down. This again will open up the grays for smoother transitions.

It just makes a change from seeing pictures sharpened so much. How many times have we seen pictures where the hair looks like spears and pores on the skin pronounced.
It doesn't happen in real life.
Do I sharpen portrait pictures?
Sometimes, but lightly, but will aggressively with landscape if required.
