Re: Portrait Inspirations

Post by Ernst-Ulrich Schafer » Wed Feb 07, 2018 7:26 pm

There are two major conventions in the portrait/wedding industry, PPofA and then WPPI. WPPI is usually held in Vegas, what a fun place to visit.
I had the opportunity to meet Parker Pfister and take his class a few years back. Parker is what we call a Gear Head, but he is also an Artist.

That second image (torso with polka dot lights) is very inspirational. I have to keep that in mind for the future.

Thanks for posting these. Thy are great idea generators.

Master of outdoor Portrait Lighting "Alan "Fuzzy" Duenkel". One of the lst portrait books I purchased was from Fuzzy, "Fuzzy Logic". Gave me insights on his lighting and his marketing/pricing.
I've always been an A la Carte pricing photographer rather than packages because of him. He has his own facebook paged called Heavy Light.

Thanks for continuing to build this inspiring thread. Of them all, Pfister is my favorite, and his first and fourth images my preferences, as any one who knows me would already guess. The artistic compositions and use of light, combined with texture work, are of course what catches my eye and gives me ideas.

Ernst, Of all the portraitists you have shown, this is my favorite. Gorgeous light, natural settings for natural photos, crisp focus for easy reading, ordinary people I could imagine meeting. Thanks. Matt

I once read 'the best way to be a master is to mimic a master.' Why start from the beginning when you can learn from the best?

Here is some work from Bev & Tim Walden. They specialize in Relationship Portraiture. Had the opportunity to study with them a couple of years back at our Professional Photographers of WA Convention.
