Assignment - Orton Effect

I like the Orton Effect but haven't worked with it in a while. I have usually done it with forest images, for some reason, or flowers. So I decided to try it on dam birds. Well, here goes the ortonbirds.

I had some of the artists weathered hands contrasted to Luke's grubby baby hands, but the light was so difficult, they didn't work. I want to try that concept again.

Shadows -

Multiple kinds - the birds were one in shadow, one in light, the one in light has her own shadow, and the dam itself is partly in light and shadow.

I like it minniev. I know it's not critique but I'd crop the small bright bit off the left......I don't see it helping the image and draws the eye

I agree. I wanted to try with it there to see if it might add something in terms of the contrasting pieces, but I agree it isn't enough to be more than a nuisance.

HMMM. Not sure how to express my reaction. First, I didn't know what the Orton Effect was, so I Googled it. Now I know.

Personal preference about the effect? A touch too soft and dreamy for me.

Your image? The contrast between the energy of the water and the softness of the effect leaves me slightly off-kilter and puzzled. My mind and eye can't settle. But that was the assignment. Perhaps another of your treasures might have worked better for me. An audience of one, though, is not an audience but a monologue. So, that's my take, Minnie, for what it is.
