#52-60: A Get Well Mini-Mum

This is one of the mini mums in the bouquet a friend sent my wife and me to keep us happy company. It started out green. I have been learning the brush tool in LR and used it here to eliminate the other flowers and leaves but there are some ghosts I couldn't chase away.

#52-61: The Singing Cossack

Imagination takes flight. I can't wander too far, especially when it's sunny. So I shot this in our neighbor's backyard around 6 pm. Even then, I got a burn. Suffering for our art. And the pM community.

#52-62: From the archives

"Don't get around much anymore." So I dipped into the pictures from the winter at Cape Cod and played with Silver Effex, trying a novice's attempt at layering one preset over another. Don't remember which presets I used. Gotta take notes, I guess.

An early evening walk

I have to avoid sun so, if I am to walk, the sun must be down. And I don't want to prowl about at midnight. This is the path between woods and our 55+ community. When I started up this little hill, I had to stop halfway, that's how out of shape I have become so rapidly. I used to be able to walk for an hour. That will come again. Maureen and I don't have anything as grand as these folks do; this part of the neighborhood keeps up.

In my state of partial blindness I've missed these last three. I like the bark (aspen? birch?), where you've managed to get detail at differing levels of those curls. The last is a pleasing rendition of those rather grand dwellings. But that middle image of the tree is a really wonderful image. I think it deserves another look at the editing when you feel up to it. There is either some haloing or perception of haloing around the tree branches, and there may be something you could do with the right hand side to mitigate the blacks in the clouds and in the bushes, and still bring down the sky highlights. It could be tedious work in layers in PS and/or with control points in Silver Efex, but it would be good practice and more importantly, this is a special image. It has some kinship to some of Graham Smith's tree images. It will be printworthy when you polish this gem a little.

Thanks, Minnie. Frank made the same observation about the haloing and suggested another pass at it. I will try SEP since I am more familiar with that than with PS.

The houses/hill photo is a metaphor for my recovery; a hill to climb with the draw of light as the promise at the top.

The specifics of your critique really help. Thanks much. Matt

In the Moon thread I gave you a little mini tutorial about halo repair. It's magic.
