Air ambulance delivered Santa to the Elks Club

Postby Coral » Mon Dec 29, 2014 10:13 pm

My husband works for an air ambulance company. Every year they have delivered Santa to the Elks to hand out presents to the kids. They landed on hole #1 of the golf course - always a lot of fun. Sky was really bland that afternoon.

Thanks, here's Santa. He took off really quickly and didn't get a great shot of him with the crew.

I'm sure many Santas wish they looked like that. :D

Coral, out of curiosity and for the other members here, have you found a good shutter speed for getting helicopter blades to look good? They have a hint of motion in the last frame in the first post, which conventional wisdom dictates is better than the 1/1600"+ frozen blade toy helicopter look that I always get.

Admittedly, about the only time I ever snap photos of helicopters and airplanes is when they suddenly pass overhead when I'm shooting sports or wildlife, so my shutter speed is cranked way up and I usually forget to adjust my settings much.

Oh, and I'm on my tablet, so apologies if you've left the EXIF data embedded in the images for us to red using a browser plug-in.

I especially like shot #2- Just the right shutter speed to get the best blur on the rotor. I also like the close proximity to the buildings- good size perspective. These medivac helicopters look small up in the sky but when the come down to save lives the are more than impressive. Great shot!
