C-130 Hercules

Postby Onslow » Sun Dec 21, 2014 2:10 am

In March, 2012 this C-130 visited from RAAF Base Edinburgh for the pilots to practise touch and go's on our dirt strip auxillary runway. This is shot with my 5Dmk2 with a Canon EF 100-400 f4.5.5.6 L IS USM lens. ISO 200, 1/160th at f8. The sky was fairly ordinary at best but it is what it is....

Awesome !!! That is one great shot of a C-130. My soon to be nephew just got out of the Air Force in Tucson, Arizona. He worked on C-130's. I will have to show him this one. Great job !!!

Thank you Dave. :) My son also has just left the Royal Australian Air Force. He worked on the P3 Orions as a black hander (Airframe technician) at RAAF base Edinburgh...
I was lucky to recover the highlights in the image. The camera had been knocked a touch. It's a 5Dmkii and is known for swapping camera modes if knocked and not noticed. Settings had changed from what I thought I was shooting... :wall:
I tend not to use the meter internally and setup for conditions by eye so didn't notice the knock.

Love this image. I really like the dust coming up behind the plane. It looks to me like you cropped a bit of the sky out? Works well for this frame.

Thank you :) Yep, the sky and foreground were cropped a bit...
