Re: Spotted Salamander

Hi Ceropegia, I am guessing you have a fish pond somewhere close by. I found some salamanders in mine and once temporarily placed one into a fish pond water filled glass jar and added a rock and some algae and let the sun shine through the murk - got some cool shots of it and then back into the fis...

I am lucky if I come across one salamander a year, and even luckier if I manage to get a shot of one.

Re: Spotted Salamander

Glad you're back, been missing you! What a cool little pal you found there, captured in all his glory, in his "world" of dirt and sticks. You did the right thing for him, instead of hauling him inside, but I'm sure it was tempting to kidnap such a colorful an unusual little fellow. I have...

Spotted Salamander

I found this salamander under a rock in my badly neglected and overgrown front yard garden which I have been endeavoring to restore to a respectable state. Of course I had to photo it so I carefully replaced the rock and ran to get my camera. After taking a couple of photos, I removed it to some rot...

Re: Just a Country Road

Beautiful rendition of a difficult subject. To me it does not seem lonely, but peacefully inviting - a quiet place to wander. Adding people, would shatter that feeling. But then again, perhaps a I'm a little quirky, because I will sometimes wait a long time for folks to clear out of a scene I want t...

Re: Prop collecting is a sickness

I, too, can relate. While I don't collect props, I do collect stuff, so I can understand the obsession with finding the best of a bunch. On many occasions, I have also gone through an entire display shelf to find the "best one". If it something I am going to display in my house, I want it ...

Re: To Flash or Not

Thanks, Duck! You are right, I just let the camera do its thing. My goal with the flash was to try to make the fountain more visible. I have edited the flash version to somewhat restore that "awesome blue sky", removed some of the red cast of the building, and done a little dodging and bur...

I'm with Charles, Love It! So colorful! Puts me in mind of Dickens's Dream by Robert William Buss (https://www.artuk.org/discover/artworks ... eam-191221)

To Flash or Not

Two handheld shots of Pasadena City Hall at night from the courtyard in the back. I almost never use a flash when taking a shot like this because it really isn't powerful enough to do much, but my hope had been to throw a little more light on the fountain. What surprised me was the differences in co...
