A similar sharpening can be done using PS CC ACR filter. Open an image, duplicate. Select duplicate. Change to smart object. Change the duplicate blend mode to Luminosity. Sharpening...

Since a few months ago I looked at sharpening using the Lab Color luminescence channel and it seems to work much better than anything else.

Has anyone tried it? What were your results? Conclusions?
