thank you for confirmation Linda! Based on your comments, I went with even greater contrast, and then got most of the reddish tint out of the background by desaturation.

foggy dusk

didn't have much to work with, so went artistic.. I think it is a Harrier Hawk, but don't know my birds that well. With better light and a little bit of luck, will get many more of this bird.

thanks Paula, Linda, Matt. Matt, I think I know the area of your old stomping grounds, there are many beautiful shots of the Shenandoah to be had. I need to change my "location" to Guard Shore on the Chesapeake.

I like Chuck's dead eyes. Through a hole, you would likely only see the wall behind anyway. The vineyards feel like fences and prison - I would consider going b/w and spook the scene up.

you use your car a lot... there is a difference between a cheap tripod and a well-made tripod. BUT, to carry in the trunk of your car, perhaps make a Bean Bag.

it is too bad the one was crossing the other right when the shot happened, I love the colors and texture of water and stage. That is a dramatic stage against the rushing waters. I love their quirky poses and faces - they are full of character. All lined up and spaced apart. So you're taking picture...
