Re: To B&W or not to B&W, that is the question

Nice shot, I like the composition. I like Ed's blurring of the foreground best so far as a key improvement, it lets the eye move rapidly into the scene. And in general, for some reason in all the image pairs, I am liking the B/W images best for some reason.

Re: Squinting

love it Frank, all she needs is an easel and a paint brush. Seriously, love it. The expression, the colors, the soft sharpness, her wild hair and the hang of the clothes. Love the beach texture - She fits, she belongs. This is Stupendous!

Re: August Fingerwork #7 - Gallinule

... and by the time I’m thinking I’m done, I sometimes can’t even remember my steps. That’s why I need friends who can see it fresh and telll me stuff. I think there is a deep truth somewhere in this statement. I am blind to my own work, but it is easy to be more objective (or at least think I am) ...

yepper, what Frank said. However... perhaps... Words grab and suck the eye right in, so the image feels top heavy. maybe softer words, or move them to the bottom to ground them.

Re: 'Soldier Boy'

you captured that sense of time - I think it awesome. Critique - the sharpness of the helmet does not match the sharpness of the face and this produces a type of dissonance (which perhaps you were shooting for)..

Re: Piers at play

PietFrancke; Wish I could do image processing to your level. "interesting shot and process - this looks like a place to visit over and over - A foggy day comes to mind, a boat or better yet, ship at the end, sunrise or sunset, the list goes on and on." Played with it a bit more. I did put a boat in...

Do you recall which Topaz simplify you used? I can stand to smooth water here and there too! I like the mood of your new image very much.

Re: Saturday Night in Memphis, 1911

All a matter of taste I guess...I will say your blending is very well done and I am liking what you have shown us so far... Thanks, Frank. The point of the whole batch of stuff I’m doing is to figure out that darned blending and bringing in multiple elements. It’s turning out to be harder than it l...

Re: Smoothing Water After The Fact

the colors are a matter of choice, I don't care for them in that the canoe is still in the original palette and thus isn't blending in as well as it could (my opinion, your mileage may vary). So I'm just not liking the colors chosen - your water blur effect on the other hand is fantastic! With it, ...

Re: Golden Hour Streamside - Natchez Trace, Somewhere in TN

I think overall it too vivid. So Cheat and leave the stream/reflections as they are, but tone down the shores and upper leaves.
