Matt, not very far away at all. The lens was my 80mm Zeiss from my Hasselblad on my D700. I'd say they were not farther than 10-15 ft.

I should think walking in those shoes would take a bit of skill. However, they seemed to have mastered the technique.

Thanks, Psjunkie. There were certain color contrasts that just didn't seem to work as well in black and white. Part of what I really liked about this photograph is that the lens I used had minimal coating. It was from the mid 60s. There were certain nuances of color that I felt really needed to stay...
