Re: Sunshine & Showers

Sorry I haven't replied to your comments before now, "too busy" is my pathetic excuse  This was picture was, in essence, a "snapshot". By which I mean spotting the potential of a scene and snapping it within seconds. This is my M.O. No long setup time for me, no waiting for the light, if it is...

Re: View of a Brickworks in West Bengal

Another great image, with all its color and culture displayed against a fine composition. I know you would want to keep the color, but did you do any of these in monochrome? They look like scenes from another century. Thanks, Minnie, they don't work too well in b&w and, as you can imagine, I have t...

Re: The Crooked Spire of Chesterfield

Thanks, Minnie. "In common folklore, there are numerous explanations as to why the spire is twisted. One well-established legend goes that a virgin once married in the church, and the church was so surprised that the spire turned around to look at the bride, and continues that if another virgin mar...

Re: Montego Bay #7 - Beauty Queen

I'm inclined to prefer your original image, kitchen sink and all. Why? Because of the partial car in the crop, it does nothing for the picture and tends to draw the eye out of the frame. In your original, the motorcycle and the car frame the subject thus taking the eye to the person. It's more balan...

Re: The Crooked Spire of Chesterfield

What an interesting structure and image! It does look sort of melted/twisted, like something made of candy that sat in the sun. Your angle shows the weirdness of the spire as well as the contrast to the "normal" part of the church. Great conversion too, the tonalities take the image more than a cap...

Re: View of a Brickworks in West Bengal

This is the women gathering for a meeting, they were all laughing and smiling so I don't think it was anything too serious, my Bengali isn't up to asking them :)

The Crooked Spire of Chesterfield

The spire was added in the 14th-century tower in about 1362. It is both twisted and leaning, twisting 45 degrees and leaning 9 ft 6 in (2.9 m) from its true centre. The leaning characteristic was initially suspected to be the result of the absence of skilled craftsmen (the Black Death had been gone ...
